Turkey suspends Khashoggi murder trial

A Turkish court has ruled to suspend the trial in absentia of 26 Saudis accused in the killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi.
The Turkish court also ruled on Thursday (April 7) that the case would be handed over to Saudi Arabia.
The Turkish court has ruled these despite warnings from human rights groups. Human rights groups claim that the decision of the Turkish court will allow Saudi Arabia to “conceal” the case.
Hatice Cengiz, the fiance of the slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi, said she would appeal against the Turkish court’s decision.
Turkey, embroiled in economic tensions, now wants to restore relations with Saudi Arabia. Several media outlets have claimed that Riyadh has agreed to develop relations with Ankara on the condition that the case against Saudi nationals in Turkey be dropped.
