Insurgents in Pakistan’s province of Balochistan attacked two military bases overnight, killing seven soldiers while losing 13 members of the armed group.

The country's top official informed this on Thursday (February 3).

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. The group said in a statement that it had carried out “suicide bombings” with a car-loaded explosive at the entrance of the bases killing more than 50 soldiers.

The news agency Reuters reported that the attacks took place overnight on Wednesday. The attacks came at a time when China is investing in the province.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan is leaving for China to attend the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics. He is scheduled to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. But the attack happened just hours before Imran Khan left for China.

Minister of Interior Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad issued a video statement after the attack. “Our armed forces repulsed the big attacks,” he said.

He added that seven members of the army and 13 insurgents had been killed. There are four or five more insurgents and the army will deal with them.

Earlier, another town in Balochistan, Gwadar, was attacked. Ten soldiers were killed in that attack.
