Cannes Film Festival: Bangladeshi films to be screened on May 19

The Cannes Film Festival, one of the oldest and most influential film festivals in the world, was screened today. The journey of the 75th Cannes Film Festival took place at the Palais des Festivals building in Cannes, hosted by Belgian actress Virginie Efira. 

This year, 18 movies are contesting for the Golden Palm or Palme d'Or in the main competition at the Cannes.

This year’s event is starting with the exhibition of Michel Hazanavicius’s movie ‘Coupez’ (Final Cut). The 12-day event will end on May 28.

The 75th Cannes Film Festival will feature a presentation of Bangladeshi stars. The festival will be attended by multiple stars from the country, and the commercial branch of the festival will show the trailers of multiple movies from the country.

The commercial section of the festival ‘Marché du Film’ will be screened on May 19 with the trailer of the movie “Mujib” based on the biography of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a joint production of Bangladesh and India. Arifin Shuvoo, a popular film actor from Dhaka who played the role of Bangabandhu in the movie, is leaving Dhaka for France this evening on the occasion of this exhibition. 

Nusrat Imroz Tisha, who played the role of Bangabandhu’s wife Sheikh Fazilatunnesa in the movie “Mujib” and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud will also be present at the festival.

In the same section, trailers of Bangladeshi movies “Din-The Day” and “Netri-the Leader” will be screened. Ananta Jalil and Afiea Nusrat Barsha are staying in France for that.

Nuhash Humayun’s short film “Moshari” has been selected for the “Fantastic Seven” event of ‘Marché du Film’. Nuhash is unable to attend the festival due to his busy schedule. However, he will be involved in the online event.
