A lawyer has filed a petition in the High Court (HC) for compensating Tk 1 crore in the incident of the death of a student that was killed as the Chotobagi PK Primary School’s ceiling collapsed on her in Barguna’s Taltoli. 

A five-member committee was formed to investigate the incident. A team of the ministry is also scheduled to visit the site on Monday. 

Advocate Hassan Tariq Palash filed a writ petition in the court of High Court Judge Sheikh Hasan Arif on Sunday. In this, he demanded to give a compensation of Tk 1 crore to the deceased family, Tk 10 lakh to each family for carrying the treatment cost, identify all the risky buildings of the primary and secondary schools and declare them as abandon. 

Lawyer Hassan Tariq Palash said, “Court accepts the writ petition and is waiting for the hearing. I hope the court will issue an appropriate rule of our logical petition.”  

Meanwhile, a five-member probe committee was formed under the leadership of DC (Overall) Mahbubul Alam, Executive Engineer of Local Government Engineering Office ASM Kabir, District Primary Education Officer Mizanur Rahman, ASP Tofail Ahmed, Taltoli Upazila Executive Officer Dipayan Das Shuvo. DC Mahbubul Alam confirmed the matter of the investigation committee. 

District Secondary Education Officer Mizanur Rahman said the school has been closed since the incident. “The education ministry is scheduled to visit schools on Monday to visit the site,” he said.   

On Saturday noon, Mansura, a third-grade student was killed as the building of Chotobagi PK Primary School building collapsed in Taltoli upazila of Barguna. In addition, five more were injured in the incident. The injured were being treated at Amtali Upazila Health Complex.
