Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has announced his retirement from cricket. He has scored more than 19,000 runs in first class cricket in his 24-year career. 

Wasim Zafar, 42, scored 19,410 runs in 260 first class matches with an average of 50.67. In the meantime, the former Indian opener has hit 57 centuries and 91 fifties.

Zafar is the highest run collector in the history of the Ranji Trophy. He scored 12038 runs for Mumbai and d Vidarbha. Not only that, he is the only batsman to score more than 10,000 runs in the tournament. 

Zafar has scored 4849 runs with an average of 44.08 in 118 list A matches in his 24-year career. Wasim Jaffer scored 1954 runs for the national team in 31 Test and 2 ODIs. 

"My father wanted one of his sons to represent India and I feel proud to have fulfilled his dream. After all these years in cricket, it is time to move on. But just like the red ball format which is very dear to me, it's the end of only the first innings. I am looking forward to the second innings in any capacity, be it in coaching, commentary etc."
