Razakar Musa gets death penalty

The International Criminal Tribunal has convicted Razakar Abdus Samad alias Feroz Khan alias Musa of Bashbaria in Puthia, Rajshahi to death over crimes against humanity case including murder, genocide, robbery, arson.
On Tuesday, the three-member bench led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam delivered the verdict.
Prosecutor Rishikesh and Prosecutor Zahid Imam were present for the state while Lawyer Abdus Sattar Palawan was present on behalf of the defendant.
Earlier, the tribunal kept waiting for the verdict after the arguments between two sides on July 8.
A total of 15 witnesses, including the investigating officer, testified in the case. There was no witness for the accused. Three visual witnesses testified at the first indictment. Two are directly from the Victim and one from the Victim family.
In addition, there are three witnesses in the second charge. All three are visual witnesses to the Victim family. In the third charge, there are four visual witnesses. All four are members of the Victim family.
There are four witnesses in the fourth charge. Of them — three are directly from the Victim and one from the Victim family.
According to the investigation report, Abdus Samad (Musa) alias Feroz Khan, son of the deceased Abbas Ali of Bashbaria of Puthia, was a supporter of the Muslim League before the Liberation War. During the Liberation War, as a supporter of Jamaat-e-Islam, he committed crimes against humanity by a local leader of the Shanti Committee.
According to the investigation report, accused Firoz Khan was charged with murdering 15 people, including four Santals, torturing 21 people, setting fire to 50 to 60 houses and looting and destroying 8 to 10 houses.
Apart from this, during Liberation War, the accused Feroz Khan, Pakistani Army and his associates went to Santal Para of Bhalukgachi of Puthia Police Station and murdered Hembrom, Kanu, Hasda, Jatu Saren, and Tunu Maadi, who were in favor for country’s independence, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm on April 20, 1971.
On December 11, 2016, the investigation of the case began. During that, six people were charged in the case. But during the investigation, the remaining five accused died and Abdus Samad (Musa) alias Feroz Khan made the only accused of the case.
The accused was arrested over the murder case while under investigation. Later, while producing him before the court on January 24, 2017, the tribunal ordered to send him jail.
