Yemen's Houthi rebels have captured twenty sailors, including five Bangladeshis. Among the captives, 13 are Indian nationals. They have been in imprisonment for about nine months, New Indian Express reports report on Sunday.

Of the 13 Indian nationals, seven are from Maharashtra, two from Kerala, two from Tamil Nadu, one from Pondicherry, and one from Uttar Pradesh, the report said. The other seven are Bangladeshi and Egyptian nationals.

A source in Yemen confirmed that there are five Bangladeshi sailors in captivity.

Houthi rebels captured the 20 sailors aboard a ship in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa. These sailors were heading to Saudi Arabia from Oman in three ships.

Yemen's government is going through civil war with the rebel group Houthis. Houthi rebels are at war with Saudi forces on the border with Saudi Arabia. They have been accused of extorting ransom by capturing foreign nationals at various times. It is thought that the 20 sailors were captured for ransom.
