Police have filed a charge sheet against the wife of Mustafa Murshed Akash, who died allegedly by suicide, along with four others for instigating the Chattogram physician to take his own life.

The others accused in the case are Mitu’s mother Shamim Shelly, father Anisul Haque Chowdhury, younger sister Sanzila Haque Chowdhury Alisha and Mitu’s so-called friend doctor MahbubulAlam.

The investigator, Sub-Inspector Abdul Quader of Chandgaon Police Station, submitted the charge-sheet to the police’s prosecution department on Monday and the law enforcers forwarded it to court on Wednesday.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Kamruzzaman said that the charge sheet was submitted to the prosecution branch on Monday. Today, the charge sheet has been sent to the court.

Akash’s mother Jobeda Khanam started a criminal case against his wife Tanzila Haque Chowdhury Mitu and five others at the Chandgaon Police Station on February-1, accusing them of committing suicide under Section 306 of the Penal Code. Akash, 32, was a physician working at the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH). He also ran a medical admission coaching center named ‘Three Doctors’.

Mitu, who passed the MBBS from Cumilla Medical College and got introduced to Akash during an internship at the CMCH, moved to the US immediately after their wedding in 2016.

The couple had been fighting over accusations of adultery since Mitu had gone to the US, police had said earlier. The situation got worse when she came back to Bangladesh on Jan 13, police said. Within two weeks of her return, Akash took his own life by allegedly injecting himself with a poisonous substance in the early hours of January 31.

Before killing himself, he wrote several posts on Facebook accusing his wife of having affairs. As “evidence”, he provided several photos of Mitu posing with her “friends”.

After that, police arrested Mitu from the house of a relative in Nandankanan area on January 31. A doctor named Mahbubul Alam, who was accused a case filed by Akash's mother, was Mittu's batch-mate at Cumilla Medical, police said then. On in the last week of August, Mitu took bail in the case from the high court. The other all accused are absconding.
