Cattle markets gain momentum in Mithapukur

Sale of sacrificial animals has got momentum a day ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha amid record supply in the 15 cattle markets in Mithapukur of Rangpur.

Owners and dealers lined up cows, goats from different places in the district. Buyers are buying their preferable cattle with bargaining. In addition, many police have been deployed in the security of the bazaars.  

A large number of cows and goats have been found in different markets including Shothibarihat, Shukurerhat, Ranipukur, Boiratihaat, Jaigirhat, Baluahat of the upazila. Besides, the buyers are also gathering in huge. This time buyers are interesting in domestic cattle. However, the prices of cows and goats are higher than last time. In addition, the doctors of the livestock department in the bazaars have been seen for health check-ups.

Cattle businessman Monnaf Mia said cattle and goats are being sold peacefully in the markets. Due to the rain, the presence of buyers was low for two days. Sales also were down. However, sales have increased since Friday. I sold five out of eight cows in one hour.

Nurul Islam Pramanik Lalon, the largest Shothibarihaat leaseholder of the upazila, said that “More cattle are being sold in the hats than other years. More than one and a half thousand cows have been traded from noon to 8pm on Friday.”

Rafiqul Islam, Upazila livestock department officer, said that “On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, more than 15 cattle hats are sitting in the upazila. Physicians of the Department of Animal Resources are engaged in cattle health testing in these hats.”
