8.2-magnitude quake jolts Alaska, triggers tsunami alert

Alaska, A state of the United States, was shaken by a strong earthquake. The magnitude of the tremor was 8.2 on the Richter scale. The quake trembled in the southwestern part of Alaska. A tsunami alert was issued in the area after that.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake was felt at 10:15 pm local time on Wednesday. It was 8.2 on the Richter scale.

The National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC) has issued a tsunami alert in Alaska. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) has issued warnings in Hawaii and Guam.

Perryville, a small village about 500 miles from Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city. A previous earthquake in October of last year had triggered a magnitude 7.5 earthquake off the southern coast of Alaska. However, no casualties were reported at that time.

Alaska is prone to frequent earthquakes due to its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire. A 9.2-magnitude earthquake in March 1964 hit Alaska. At that time, the strong earthquake and tsunami killed more than 250 people in the state.
