314 wild birds rescued in Bogura

A mobile court has sentenced a man to six months imprisonment for illegally possessioning wild birds at Dupchanchia in Bogura. At the same time, 314 wild birds of four species have been released. 

These birds were released on Tuesday morning. Earlier, the district DB police arrested the conservationist along with the birds from Dangapara village of Gunahar Union of the Upazila at around 8:45 on Monday night.

The convicted wildlife conservationist is Atwar Ali Sakidar. Atwar is son of Ochimuddin Sakidar of Dangapara village. He used to catch wild birds and sell them.

DB Police released 314 birds in Bogura

According to the police, Atwar was selling birds for 9-10 years. He used to catch birds in different places including the border areas of the country. Later, he kept these birds in his house and sold them at a higher price. This time he caught the migratory birds from India. After that, he sold it in various districts including capital Dhaka.

In charge of District DB Police Saihan Oliullah said Atwar was arrested from his house based on secret information. During this time, 314 wild birds of four species were recovered from him. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Suman Jihadi sentenced him to six months imprisonment when he was taken to the mobile court on Tuesday morning.
